Is the media telling us the whole story about the Virginia election?
What is the corporate media's problem with Joe Biden?
Joe Biden isn’t the president I would have picked. Even so, the rich and powerful among the Eastern Establishment that runs this country have many conflicting interests which put them at odds with each other. Of course, this is within their overwhelming priority of preserving capitalism and the US empire.
The coverage of the Virginia guberatorial election last week was peculiar. When the Republican candidate, Glenn Youngkin, squeaked out a small victory over the Democrat, Terry McAuliffe, the press was unanimous in announcing that Biden’s days were numbered. The actual candidate, McAuliffe, was ignored.
In fact, the L.A. Times article of Nov. 4, went 11 paragraphs before it got around to mentioning McAuliffe’s name. Like other press outlets, it seemed that they thought Biden was the candidate.
Terry McAuliffe was probably the worse candidate the Democrats could have picked to run for governor. McAuliffe is the poster boy for Democratic Party sleaze. He has occupied important party positions since 1980 when he was Finance Committee Chair in Jimmy Carter’s re-election campaign. But he is best known for his close political and personal relations with Bill and Hillary Clinton. There is no one the Dems could have picked who has been at the top of the heap, and is mired in the party’s corruption, longer than McAuliffe.
Terry McAuliffe was co-chair of Bill Clinton’s 1996 re-election campaign, chairperson of the Democratic National Committee from 2001-05, and chair of Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign.
Meanwhile, McAuliffe indulged in some questionable financial dealings with a union pension fund, and elsewhere.
This is McAuliffe’s – a born and raised New Yorker – third try at winning the Virginia Governship. In 2009, he finished 24 points behind the Democratic primary winner. In 2013, he won the primary, without opposition, and went on to defeat a Republican and a Libertarian in the general election. However, his opponents, together, got 51.7 percent of the vote.
By 2021, Bill and Hillary were no longer in favor, and were not mentioned by McAuliffe. But they certainly were mentioned by the Republicans. This is part of why the media wants to gloss over the actual campaign. Bill’s close relationship with the late pedophile, Jeffrey Epstein, was a major talking point. It’s too late for McAuliffe to disavow the Clintons, and it’s too late for Bill to disavow Epstein.
McAuliffe’s relationships with the Clintons, shady financial dealings, the Epstein scandal (Epstein’s friend Ron Burkle gave $200,000 to the campaign), and the fact that he’s a New Yorker, not a home-grown “good old boy,” should have been enough liabilities to lose the race, no matter who was president.
Once again, we should “follow the money,” when it comes to understanding why the elite do the things they do. During the Trump regime, the news media, as a whole, had record profits. Like Old Faithful, Trump would spout off every day. This would give broadcast and print media their headlines, and encourage advertisers to reach more viewers and readers.
Joe Biden, on the other hand, doesn’t say much, and what he does say is usually boring, leaving lackluster hours of TV news, and print editors scrambling to fill the news hole.
Surely, media owners wouldn’t be so crass that they are only interested in profit. Don’t be so sure, more and more newspapers are falling under the ownership of hedge funds, while Fox, MSNBC, CNN, etc. mostly lost their credibility years ago, and besides, their "journalists” just read the copy that’s put in front of them.
