Do you fear the future? Many people are so afraid of the future that they don’t want to hear or see the news. Other people become neurotic because they know the future is coming. They feel inadequate or deathly afraid every time something changes. They have already had enough novelty to last a lifetime.
Blame it on the mainstream media and Hollywood. They paint a picture of the future that would scare the bejesus out of atheists. Who are they kidding? It’s another case of those who know the least, or care the least, about the future telling us how it’s going to be. They just want to make money by scaring other people.
What if the future was much better than today? That’s been the pattern for thousands of years. Living in the Roman Empire was an improvement for most people compared to running around in the woods and killing things. The first cities that humans built were more luxurious than sleeping on the ground.
How can we convince people that good times are just ahead? Unfortunately, most people can’t understand the economics. They don’t think that twice or 10 times as much wealth in society will give them a better life.
It’s understandable that they are fearful. Just look at the evil people running things today. Of course, those we call the Robber Barons, the oligarchs, the Elite, the Deep State, etc. have to be removed from power. Let’s hope we can have a peaceful revolution, because they sure aren’t leaving on their own.
Once this dreck (German word for rubbish, trash, dung, shit) is put out to pasture, we can build a world devoted to human needs, not corporate profits. The sooner we millions get started, the sooner we can have a beautiful future.
Here Comes the Future
Fortunately, we’ve been in touch with a time traveler, named recordkeepingjuu eqc, who’s been hanging around recently. He won’t say when he is from, but with time travelers you can’t be picky. In a letter to the Left Coast, he made the following comments:
Yes, you are about to overcome scarcity, despite all the wasteful things the human race has done. So here is some of what it will be like.
Money – It’s gone, but in its place are things called “credits.” We don’t need them anymore, but in the early days after the end of capitalism, they were very popular. We keep them around mostly for accounting purposes.
Universal Basic Income – The UBI actually began during capitalism to deal with the horrible economic inequality of those days. It’s still around and a monthly payment of credits goes straight to your Credit Union. You can combine them with the credits of friends and use it to open a restaurant, machine shop or some useful service.
Housing – You can’t make money off of people’s needs, especially housing. It’s too important for everyone’s welfare. Nowadays, we care more about the “use value,” than the “exchange value.” The use value of a home, is of course, that you can live in it. People who have extra rooms in their house, often invite their friends to move in.
In the future, people like to socialize more than they did in the olden days, or maybe they just didn’t have the chance. Lots of people live in the swanky apartments that are springing up everywhere. Apartment dwellers can trade units if they so desire, or they can watch the internet for vacancies in another city. No one even thinks of selling their home or apartment, and there is no such thing as rent. Landlords have been renamed residents.
Jobs - They don’t exist. They’re dead as a door nail. Once the money economy stopped working, it took away the reason people would want a job. There is still work, of course. But it’s work for yourself, or for your cooperative. Hardly anyone wants to lay around all day if they could be working at something they truly enjoy. People work to make things better. They work to help their friends, or the whole world. They work to delight us with even more novelty.
All the drudgery of life has gone away with automation. Non-sentient artificial intelligence (AIs) build things to order and repair them when they break. No more repetitive work means we are finally free to enjoy life.
Everyone has turned out to be an artist, an inventor, a poet, a singer, and so much more. Their talents were hiding all this time, disguised by the words, “blue collar,” “white collar,” and even worse names. Who could ever think creatively when they’ve already been type-cast by society?
We’ve even invented a way to send letters to the past! Don’t be worried or depressed, the biggest advancement in human history is right around the corner. But you can’t be passive. You’ve got to bring down the Empire, capitalism, racism, sexism, greed and wars. Please be as non-violent as you can. We’re all one big human race.
So what we end up with is Socialism, but in the future it may not be called that. It may just be modern times. It really doesn’t matter what we call it, as long as everyone lives a beautiful life of justice, peace and equality. But get ready for questions from your kids and grandkids who wonder how we could have put up with capitalism for so long.
