The Last Days of Joe Biden and Bashar al-Assad
Chaos and disorder has descended over the ancient land of Syria. The country is now subject to the tender mercies of al-Qaeda and ISIS. The destruction of the World Trade Towers has been forgotten.
When the ultimate confrontation for the soul of Syria came two weeks ago, the president, al-Assad, was listless after nearly 25 years in power. The Syrian Arab Army also appeared listless in holding off the terrorists. Syria’s allies Iran, Iraq, Russia, Hezbollah and other members of the Axis of Resistance (against Israel), likewise, did little to avert this catastrophe. As a result, the former commander of al-Qaeda, Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, has taken power in Syria.
A Terrorist is now Caliph of Syria
Most of those cheering the abdication of al-Assad can be found in three countries: Turkey, Israel and the United States. The most devious president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, of Syria’s neighboring country, Turkey, also known as Türkiye, was the “point man” on the conspiracy to destabilize Syria.
Many of the terrorists were harbored in Turkey, where they underwent military training. The best and brightest were also included in the U.S. training of Ukrainians. The Kurds, who Erdogan hates, were promised something to join in the conflict with Syria. Perhaps Erdogan promised them their own country. With someone like Erdogan, that doesn’t mean they will get it. In addition, the Turkmen, who live along the border were likely bullied into carrying weapons.
Back to the Middle Ages
Erdogan, who styles himself a latter-day Sultan of the Ottoman Empire has the same craving for “territory,” as does Israel. As a devout Muslim (he says), he would like to reconstitute the Old Empire, which had won its standing by conquering the Eastern Roman Empire in 1453 (known as Byzantium in the West). At the end of World War I, the Ottoman Empire disintegrated and Turkey became merely a country. The end of that war did not bring peace, but rather a genocide in which the Turks killed at least one million Armenians. It was the largest genocide of the 20th Century.
Erdogan’s new Turkish empire would include the states of central Asia, including most of the central Asian “stans.” There are also hundreds of thousands of Turks living in the Balkans, northern Cyprus, Europe, the U.S. and other countries around the world for whom Sultan Erdogan would speak.
Lately, the “Sultan,” has been playing off the U.S. and Russia against each other. Despite Turkey’s association with BRICS, he has now come down on the side of Israel and the U.S. America needs to keep good will with Turkey as a bulwark against further expansion of Russia. On the other hand, the Russians have major investments in Turkey, including a pipeline to Europe and a soon-to-be-finished nuclear reactor. There are now 2,000 Russian corporations in Turkey, forcing the Kremlin to tread lightly with the Sultan. Before the terrorist coup which Erdogan engineered, he had frosty relations with Assad, but now he can enjoy a degree of control over the new terrorist regime in Damascus.
Hey Bibi, the New Neighbors have Moved In
The Israeli Zionists couldn’t be happier. They will no longer have to do those routine bombing runs over Syria, or tolerate shipments of weapons from Iran, through Syria, to Hezbollah and Hamas. The road from Tehran to Palestine is blocked by an unfriendly terrorist regime which will probably side with Israel.
Why would the terrorists be hostile to Israel? They’ve never been interested in Palestinian struggles. And besides, murder is there business. If relations go bad between the genocidal Israelis and the terrorist new regime in Syria,
Netanyahu can always invade and create a buffer zone, or occupied territory which can be fertile ground for expanding Greater Israel. Why not? Israel has already seized Syria’s Golan Heights?
Russia is Playing a Dangerous Game
Then there’s Russia, which is one of the biggest losers in this geopolitical “game.” Why was Russia so slow on the uptake when their best ally in the Middle East needed their help? It may have more to do with Kremlin politics than with a lack of availability of men and weapons.
Ever since Russia’s first military involvement in both Syria and Ukraine, there has been vocal opposition in the Kremlin. Some Russian Generals and civilian leaders have been outspoken, complaining that Russia was wasting its resources and soldiers. They were quick to point out that this was not The Great Patriotic War (WW2) and Russia’s existence was not at stake. In Ukraine, some of the Generals waged lack luster campaigns, and some were removed from their command. Fighting Ukrainian Nazis evidently did not have the same mass appeal as did fighting German Nazis in WW2.
Is Putin’s presidency at stake? Only time will tell. Anything can happen to any political leader. Who knew that Assad could be wiped off the political map in two weeks? Putin probably didn’t want another war, especially one so far away. The best choice for his own political safety was to sit quietly, and wait until it’s over.
The Biden/Blinken Gambit
In the 45 days still remaining since the presidential election of Nov. 5, 2024 until the inauguration of Donald Trump, the previous chief executive is still in power. Now, Trump has a mess on his hands.
Joe Biden did not run again because the powers in the Democratic Party did not believe he was fit. So who’s in charge? Some think it is Secretary of State Antony Blinken calling the shots. Others think it is a cabal of military, intelligence, and major donors who are pushing for two goals: help Israel in its ongoing battle for greater power, and greater size, in the Middle East; and secondly, to make life as difficult as possible for Trump, when he finally returns to the presidency.
The U.S. can chalk up another trophy of Middle East countries it has destroyed, or helped to destroy, along with Iraq and Libya. The fearsome al-Qaeda and ISIS terrorists have become our terrorists.
Now, American neo-conservatives and other warmongers are tipping their glasses in never ending toasts and celebrating their tremendous victory in Syria where a typical Arab leader was tossed out and a fundamentalist Islamist was welcomed into the halls of power.
Perhaps Joe Biden’s ultimate evaluation by the American people would be higher if he spent his final days doing what’s best for the American voters he was elected to serve rather than working to derail the presidency of his successor.
What Kind of Life will Syrians endure?
Twenty-five million people will be living under the rule of a group of gangsters who are known for their expertise at decapitation and burning people alive. Here come those promoters of “Make Syria Medieval Again” with their repertoire of persuasive tactics, ready to do their duty. It may not be decapitation for everyone. Maybe a finger here and there, or a poke in the eye. Those paragons of democracy in the U.S. and the European Union have redefined the term “human rights” once again. Way to go Biden, Erdogan, and Bibi. This historic trio has made many of us ashamed to be part of the human race.
