History repeats itself, but the second time as farce, according to Karl Marx. True enough when we consider the events of January 6, 2021, in the United States of America. Thousands of “deplorables,” in Hillary Clinton’s words, broke through barricades and pushed aside a few guards, to windup in the hallowed halls of Congress. Many of the insurrectionists looked bewildered, as if they never thought they would get that far.
One woman, Ashli E. Babbitt, was killed. She was a vocal Trump supporter from San Diego, who ran afoul of a frightened guard. Three other Trumpists died of medical reasons. Otherwise, most of the cops treated the invaders as their long-lost cousins, a far cry from the gestapo tactics meted out to Black Lives Matter, and supporters.
After a few selfies, and some gawking at their surroundings, the deplorables willingly accompanied their escorts (guards) to the doors. Somewhere in their magical mystery tour, they forgot their mission, to put their leader back in power for another four years (or more).
Why did this regime change fail? Because the CIA was not calling the shots. There was no plan, as in The Ukraine’s “Maidan” regime change caper that was engineered by the Obama regime and the CIA. Victoria Nuland, a point person in the affair, and now a Biden appointee for Under Secretary of State, spilled the beans of U.S. involvement, in a bugged phone conversation, with the ambassador to The Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt. The transcript caused a major uproar in the European Union, especially the part where Nuland said “Fuck the EU.”
More recent was the overthrow of the Bolivian President, Evo Morales, in which the CIA was reportedly heavily involved. That regime change was relatively bloodless, and was, itself, overturned by the people of Bolivia in 2020.
Bloodly regime changes have become a hallmark of the CIA and related government agencies. In Chile, a CIA coup plan, entitled Track II, was implemented on Sept. 11, 1973. The Henry Kissinger and CIA-engineered overthrow and murder of President Salvador Allende, and thousands more, took place on that day and resulted in the neo-fascist regime of General Augusto Pinochet.
Even bloodier was the regime change in Indonesian in 1965, in which up to a million people were murdered. CIA complicity in the bloodiest coup ever has been well established by the subsequent release of documents.
One wonders how many future regime changes are on the CIA drawing boards right now. We can be sure there are plans for at least Venezuela, Iran, Syria, North Korea, and even Russia and China. Will President Biden be receptive to any of the nefarious plans being implemented? We can be sure that some of his recent appointees will be pushing for illegal political change. The big question is not about Biden, but about the millions of us who joined Black Lives Matter, and other protests. Will we take to the streets and stand up against a President from the Democratic Party? Our future on Planet Earth depends upon the Blue and the Red turning Green.
We can be thankful that the CIA was not involved in the events of January 6 in Washington. Our distorted form of democracy lives on!
As Malcolm X said,
"The chickens are coming home to roost."
I don't think there is a chance in hell that Biden will have a change in conscience over regime change coups. As long as capitalism rules the day.
