The War to Save Democracy Intensifies
All eyes are focused on the terrible genocide being inflicted on Palestinian civilians. Benjamin Netanyahu, and many more, have decided to found a pure Zionist state on the blood of the residents.
From Israel to Harvard, the Other War to Destroy Democracy Escalates
There is a well-organized campaign in the United States to undermine what’s left of democracy and free speech. The right-wing campaign has several tactics. One is to sow fear in the easily frightened so they keep their mouths shut, and to confuse the well-educated so they either keep quiet or just speak about irrelevant topics.
The term “woke” was one of the first targets of the Right. The term became popular with the Black Lives Matter movement against police shootings of Black people. It is another way of saying “keep awake,” or “keep aware,” of racism and discrimination. It’s also been used as a general term calling attention to all forms of injustice. Today, it seems that no right-winger can open their mouth without belittling the word.
More dangerous is the assault on public schools. Suddenly, angry parents across the country have packed school board and city council meetings to demand changes in curriculum and the firing of “woke” teachers and board members. A coincidence? You be the judge.
In Higher Education, the Right won a big victory with the resignation of Claudine Gay, the president of Harvard. Now they are going after the people who hired her. This university may have too much prestige among the public. It is not the Harvard of bygone days when only the best and richest students could hope to attend. One of the purposes of this private college has always been to indoctrinate its upper middle class student body in the ways of administering the desires of the Oligarchs. Look up the backgrounds of the Supreme Court Justices, the top State Department officials, the CIA, and other important levers of the ruling class. You’ll find Harvard backgrounds in abundance.
There was a trap set for Gay, and she walked right into it. Her appearance before Congress sealed her fate. Like many liberals in a similar position, she did not take an aggressive stand against censorship. Instead, she was constantly on the defensive. Not once did she say that taking sides in a foreign war was not the purview of the University, nor did she strenuously speak up for the students’ right to protest on either side. The final blow against Gay was the argument that she did not “measure up” to the quality of past presidents.
Remember that Cornel West was forced out by one of these upstanding presidents, Larry Summers, because he, West, did not “measure up.” After the Civil War, a number of Black candidates were elected to Congress. A frequent argument against them, which can be found in older history textbooks and popular media, was that they didn’t “measure up.” Is there a pattern here?
Cornel West responded a few years later when he again ran afoul of Harvard’s bureaucracy and was denied tenure:
“Is Harvard a place for a free Black man (or woman-ed.) like myself whose Christian faith and witness put equal value on Palestinian and Jewish babies – like all babies – and Palestinian and Jewish babies – and reject all occupations as immoral?” – Cornel West
West’s statement was issued in 2021, but it illuminates what is happening today with the right-wing, who may not even support Israel, but are joining hands with the Zionists to tear this country apart.
How can the Left contend with this combination of forces? Nobody wins by being passive. People on the Left must aggressively advocate for their beliefs. There can be no backing down on the fight against racism, or we’re all doomed. Likewise with diversity, equity and inclusion. Let’s carry the debate to those who would take us back a century and a half.
This Book will give you a better education than Harvard
Chaos and Disorder, a new book by James R Smith, blows the lid off the ceaseless lies of mainstream propaganda. From foreign wars to so-called aid packages of the Administration and Congress, Smith reveals the true nature of the many changes during the last few years.
“We are seeing the erosion of democracy on all fronts,” says Smith. “From First Amendment rights to maintaining a decent standard of living, the oligarchs who run this country are undermining working peoples ability to have their say in the important things of life.”
Chaos and Disorder rips apart the phony facade we are supposed to believe and digs deeply into the underlying motivations and plans of the ruling class.
This vital book should be read by everyone who is questioning the bewildering world we have been cast into by forces that have no concern for our welfare. It’s available on Amazon or can be ordered at your local bookstore.
